Totally Cute Holiday Shirts

Just thought I'd stop for a brief post to share what I've been up to besides being a maid, chauffeur, and event planner for the family.

I've been making these totally adorable personalized holiday shirts.

I made these shirts for a good friend. I haven't photographed the ones I've made for my girls yet, but they've been wearing them and since then I've had a few orders. I wasn't intending on selling these, but a few extra bucks for the holiday season have been a nice treat for me.

I don't have a Christmas tree yet, but hopefully I'll have one this week. My goal this week: CLEAN and dig out the Christmas decorations.

Natural Beauty

Yesterday I was privileged to some beautiful faces in front of my camera. Wish I could share them all, but that would require permission, and so far I only got permission for this stunning tween.

She was pure beauty. . .

And a complete natural.

Even with four outfit changes,

total camera time was less than 30 minutes!

She did exactly what I asked her to do. . .

Which makes taking photos so much easier. Isn't she striking? I can't believe she's only 11 years old! Not only is she absolutely gorgeous, but she's super sweet. Mom and Dad are going to be busy fighting off the boys for sure. Good Luck Lisa & Rick!

Hurricane Force Storms in Alaska

I thought I should actually post something of a little more substance than crafting tonight. Don't get me wrong crafting means the world to me, but tonight my mind is on my fellow Alaskans. Whether or not you are the praying type, please pray/send good thoughts for the people on Alaska's coastline. You see, as I sit here, there is a massive winter storm tearing through the waters along the western coast of Alaska. Hurricane force winds are expected, followed by a significant rise in water, massive floods, and severe beach erosion.

This storm is forecasted to be worse than the 1974 storms due to the fact that the sea ice is significantly reduced compared to 1974, leaving far less of a protective barrier. Some people in certain areas have been evacuated for safety.
Growing up on Nelson Island, I am very familiar with the extreme forces of what would be a considered a "normal" storm/blizzard, and I can only hope that this storm fails to elevate to the beyond normal level forecasted.

Saved by Scraps

I was so excited this morning as I had scored these inexpensive sheets and I was going to embroider some Christmas designs to make holiday duvet covers for my girls.

So I set my machine to work while I did chores and it did just that. Only it was an "Epic Failure" as my girls would say. Because I am new to my machine, I didn't factor in shifting. My machine did what it was supposed to and I failed to secure the  parts of the sheet that weren't getting embroidered, so it caught some of it and embroidered onto itself. I know that explanation made no sense so just look at the picture please.

The great thing about $3.99 sheets, is that I wasn't too upset about having to cut it up. So I decided to make lemonade out of the situation and dug out my scrap fabric and an extra pillow form I just happened to have on hand.

And I made a pillow cover.

After it was all said and done, I realized that I probably shouldn't have used a couple of the fabric choices, but really I'm pleased with the results and so are my girls. It will go in their room to go with their holiday duvets, if I ever get them done.

Another successful saved by scraps moment!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Now that the ghouls and goblins are behind us, it's onto winter holiday preparations. . .

I'm having fun with my new embroidery machine.

And I have a few projects up my sleeve.

So stay tuned. . .

For a few up coming holiday goodies.
