Summer Love in Alaska

It hasn't been the best weather in AK, but it's perfect. Not too hot and not too cold. So I've pretty much been enjoying the outdoors and spending very little time inside.

Most evenings we go out to the end of our property and build a fire. On occasion I enjoy a glass of wine. As you can see, I fill the glass a lot to avoid walking back to the house for a refill.

Ten year olds make great fire starters under close supervision.

We are blessed to have bought a cabin with some friends, that already had a nice deck with a fire pit built in the middle.  It's much nicer than the fire pit at home.
I couldn't ask for anything better.

This is Yahoo Station, our home away from home.

In order to get there, we drive an hour North to launch our boat at the
Deshka Landing and head to the Yetna river. About an hour ride in our boat.

My favorite craft in the wilderness is playing with sticks an stones along side my girls.

And cooking a tasty meal. Food always seems to taste better when you're camping. This meal, however, was prepared by my mother-in-law who can cook a delicious gourmet meal anywhere.

When we're not cooking or eating, we're playing.

And loving what nature has to offer.

When I am forced to be inside, it's usually because it's bed time and I'm fighting
my insomnia. I submit to the sleeplessness and make hair bows here and there.

And talk one of my kids into modeling them for me.

It's been a great summer. I may not always appreciate Alaska and her bi-polar weather, but I sure am loving it now.
